With the fourteen articles in this volume I have tried to present a contemporary view of Applied Linguistics, through an integrating approach to the most outstanding fields of this discipline. The intention is to make provision for the most widely accepted sub-disciplines with a clear methodological perspective in mind. For this reason, chapters have been designed to serve as panoramic starting points in each of the fields covered. Each chapter then consists of an introduction, a section on the state of the art, where authors review the most relevant assumptions and developments of their field of knowledge, results from experience and applications to foreign language learning, a section with activities for the future practitioner and a brief annotated bibliography with introductory and general works about the discipline. This pedagogical structure aims to provide the reader with an overview of the most prominent aspects covered by each field.
